Tesorio Pay: Network Fees & Reconciliation

Understand how Tesorio Pay handles additional card network fees and reconciliation.

Updated this week

Overview

Tesorio Pay uses simple, blended pricing to make accepting payments predictable and easy and these rates will apply to the majority of your transactions. In some cases, card networks apply additional fees that fall outside of standard domestic card transactions.

When that happens, we reconcile those fees once the transactions are settled and pass them through to you at cost.

This approach allows us to:

  • Offer simple blended pricing up front

  • Remain compliant with card network rules

  • Avoid surprises caused by retroactive invoices

  • Keep payment processing uninterrupted and transparent

This article explains what the fees are, how reconciliation works, and what to expect.

What are “Additional Card Network Fees”?

Card networks (e.g. Visa and Mastercard) and issuing banks set fees based on card type and how a payment is processed. These fees can vary depending on various factors such as:

  • International or cross-border cards

  • Commercial, corporate, or purchasing cards

  • Premium or rewards cards

  • Certain card network assessment rules

Because these fees are set by card networks and issuing banks, they are not always known at the time of processing until the payment has fully progressed through the network. The true card interchange rate is generally known on the same day, typically within a few minutes or hours after the transaction.

Fee Handling & Reconciliation

For most customers, Tesorio negotiates & applies a blended rate to your transactions to keep pricing simple. Each day, we reconcile your transactions using the actual interchange fees charged by the card networks once that data becomes available from our processing partner.

Because card network fees are reported after transactions settle, reconciliation always occurs after the payments themselves have been processed.

If the actual network fees exceed the amount included in your blended rate, the difference is passed through to you at cost, with no markup. Please note that the network fees are expressed as the agreed-upon percentage. Tesorio Pay will always keep the per-transaction cost negotiated, even if we pass the higher network % fee through to you.

Most standard domestic card transactions are fully covered by your blended rate. Reconciliation applies only when card network or issuer fees exceed what is included in that rate.

Fee Collection

Rather than issuing you an invoice, Tesorio Pay automatically deducts reconciled amounts from your next available payout. If a single payout does not fully cover the reconciled amount, the remaining balance is applied to subsequent payouts until settled. This approach avoids manual billing and keeps the process automatic and predictable.

Reconciled card network fees are reflected in your reporting by navigating to Customer Payments > Tesorio Pay > Reports.

Tesorio does not mark up these outlier transactions, and any additional card network fees are passed through at actual cost.
